Getting to Sàmara
from San Jose

By Bus

A bus leaves daily from San Jose at 12:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. from the Alfaro bus station, which is 150 meters northwest from the Coca-Cola station. The cost of a one-way ticket is about Colones 3,500 (about US $7) per person, and the trip takes about 5 hours. We advise you to buy bus tickets one day in advance.

Renting a Car

Major rent-a-car companies have offices in both the San Jose and Liberia airports. Minimum age required is 21 years old. During the rainy season, we suggest renting a 4×4 vehicle.

By Car

Sámara is about a 4.5-hour drive from downtown San Jose.

From San Jose, follow the Interamericana Highway North until the turnoff for the Tempisque Bridge – Puente de la Amistad. After crossing the Gulf of Nicoya, drive directly to Nicoya and from there turn south to Sàmara.

from Liberia

By Car

Sámara is about a 1.5-hour drive from Liberia International Airport “Daniel Oduber”.

From Liberia, drive directly to Nicoya and from there turn south to Sàmara.
